Hi everyone and welcome to The Wise Squirrel!
I created this blog to help you improve your personal finances by: saving more of what you earn, finding ways to earn more, and develop your own system to become financially independent. I’ve learned a lot about personal finance through personal experiences, working in Corporate America, and continuous learning. I want to teach you what I’ve learned to save smarter, earn more money, and live a life that truly makes you happy.
My name is Jennifer, and by developing good financial habits, I was able to retire early at 41. I’m currently living a life full of passion projects that keep me busy on a daily basis, but also fill me with happiness and joy knowing that I’m doing what I love without having to worry about my next paycheck coming in or how I’m going to pay the bills every month.
My goal through this website is to enable you to:
- Understand your personal finances (income, expenses, taxes)
- Save money consistently every month
- Find ways to earn more money
- Become financially secure
- Retire comfortably (or early if you desire)
A Little Bit About Me…
I started working in Accounting during my senior year of high school, and decided that was the career I wanted then and there. I got my bachelors degree in Accounting from the University of Washington and went on to work in public accounting for another couple of years while I got my CPA certification.
After getting burned out in public accounting, I followed my career path into Corporate America working at Dial, Honeywell, Hostess, PetSmart and a few other companies. I’ve learned so much about business from my years in Corporate America, but over the last couple of years became tired of the politics and bureaucracy and decided to follow my passion of helping others in accounting, finance and business by starting my own website / blog through Wealthy Affiliate. (See my WA profile here)
In my spare time, you can often find me curled up with a good book, watching Netflix, or running with my dog Coco.
Never Give Up! Keep Learning! and Always Enjoy the Journey!
Why “The Wise Squirrel”?
Occasionally, I’ve been referred to as a “squirrel” because I enjoy finding ways to save money and prepare for my future. I think it is very fitting because the squirrel symbolizes planning for the future, resourcefulness, as well as playfulness. Squirrels show us the importance of being prepared since they annually gather nuts and seeds in the fall to get them through the winter scarcity. The squirrel teaches us the importance of having balance in our journey, to slow down and pay attention while creating a plan that will fulfill your goal.
Here’s my favorite “squirrel” – my dog Coco happily wearing her squirrel costume. Be the Squirrel. Work hard, play hard, and NEVER give up on your dreams!
