As the holidays and the end of the year approaches, it’s a great time to stop and reflect upon your life and be thankful for things in your life, especially the little things. You can use this time to create a routine of reflection to be thankful every day in your life, not just during the holidays. A morning or evening habit of taking a few minutes to think of what you are grateful for each day will lead to a daily ritual of thankfulness and positivity.
Be Thankful – For Your Health!
We always take our health for granted until something goes wrong, even a little cold. Staying healthy is an important aspect of enjoying life. It’s difficult to enjoy anything when you are sick! If you feel healthy and energetic now, be thankful! Never take your health for granted. Continue to cherish your body and take care of yourself each and every day.
I highly promote taking mental health days occasionally when the need arises. Take time to do the things you want to do and enjoy time to yourself. In today’s world of go-go-go, taking a day to unwind and relax is not only fun to do, but it is also important for your overall health. Find an excuse to take a mental health day, and your mind and body will thank you for it!
Be Thankful – For All You Have!
It seems like every time I talk to someone they always manage to reference longing for something they don’t have – a bigger TV, a more expensive car, going on an exotic vacation, or more clothes, shoes and purses. Instead of dreaming of all the things you don’t have, why don’t you be grateful for what you already have. Do you have a roof over your head, food in your refrigerator, and clothes to wear? Think of all the people in the world that hope and pray for those things alone. They don’t need a new car or more electronics than they could possibly use, they just want the basic necessities in life.
As you buy gifts for yourself and others this holiday season, please reflect on those less fortunate than you. If you can take time to be thankful for all that you have, whether it’s the basic necessities or all the fun extras in your life, you will spark a little extra happiness.
It’s important to find things in our life we are thankful for, while reflecting on the rest of the world as well. When you see all the devastation, sickness, and heartache that others are faced with, you instantly become thankful for the things in your life that you may usually take for granted. So, today, and every day, take time to be thankful!
